Agentic banking : Danske Bank is the first Nordic bank to connect business banking data to AI agents
12 months ago Danske Bank launched Premium APIs, bringing embedded financial services to life. Now, the bank announces the pilot launch of its Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server, giving corporate customers the control to connect their AI agents directly to the bank’s Premium APIs, so they can access and act on their own financial data within whatever agentic AI tool they already use.
That means a customer can ask “What’s my account balance?” or “Build a cashflow forecast for the next three months?” and receive instant responses generated directly by the AI assistant.
“We used to navigate with paper maps. Now we use GPS, real-time, always rerouting, always showing exactly where you are. Corporate finance is simply going through the same shift. For years, financial operations would be done within your online bank or your ERP. Now there’s a third interface: whatever agentic AI tool your team has chosen. And that tool is only as good as the data feeding it. So trusted bank data and services via Premium APIs are key.” – said Christie H. Kristensen, Strategic Integration Partnerships Director at Danske Bank.
And it’s inevitable, the signals have been building for months. Google made search GenAI-first. ChatGPT partnered with open banking players and is moving into financial advisory, alongside Anthropic. Accounting, treasury, and ERP platforms are launching their own MCP servers. Each becomes a piece of the same connected, AI-accessible financial ecosystem.
Kristensen added: “This is only the beginning. Banks will shift from being the place you go to the connective tissue underneath wherever financial operations happen. Rather that’s within accounting software, ERP, or an AI tool of choice. What I’ll watch next: as stablecoins reshape cross-border payments, agentic tools will increasingly decide, in real time, whether a transaction moves in traditional currency or stablecoin, based on what the client needs in that moment. From open banking to agentic banking. This is just the start.”
