NETOPIA expands into embedded finance with partner-led financing solutions. The company wants to build a one-stop-shop model.
NETOPIA, Romania’s biggest payment processor since 2003, is the latest confirmed Ecosystem Partner of the international Banking 4.0 conference.
“We chose to become a Banking 4.0 partner this year because the theme of this edition — the transition from digital to autonomous finance — describes exactly the direction in which we see payments evolving. Following digitalization and embedded finance, the next natural step is for transactions to be initiated, negotiated, and settled by software agents on behalf of consumers or merchants, rather than simply by people pressing a button. We joined Banking 4.0 as a partner precisely because we are at the beginning of this journey and want to learn from the experience of other players across banking and fintech, while developing our own solutions in parallel. It is a space where we can exchange ideas and gain an early understanding of which security and interoperability standards will matter, before integrating them into the NETOPIA platform,” said Raluca Micu, CEO of NETOPIA Payments.
Following the granting of its BNR license, the company’s immediate priorities are focused on consolidating a one-stop-shop embedded finance ecosystem, aimed at diversifying payment methods and introducing new financing options through partners.
“Concretely, NETOPIA will transition to embedded finance solutions, diversify the payment methods it accepts — including A2A / RoPay — and introduce partner-based financing options, such as merchant cash advance products. We also plan to expand our license to include additional payment services in order to build a one-stop-shop model: seamless integration, end-to-end collection and reconciliation, enabling merchants to manage all their payments from a single platform and focus on growing their businesses,” added Raluca Micu.
The infrastructure NETOPIA is building to support this vision — designed to be easy to integrate and automate — is also a prerequisite for the next step toward agentic commerce.
“This is not a separate strategy, but a natural continuation of the same direction. We are still at the beginning, however, and are actively exploring what this means in practical terms for our merchants and for our payment infrastructure,” Micu said, adding:
“Given our position as a leader in payment processing, we are building an extremely automated, secure, and resilient infrastructure today, because this is an absolute prerequisite for the autonomous commerce of tomorrow.”

This year, Banking 4.0 international fintech conference is about moving beyond digitalization, towards intelligent, autonomous financial systems. It explores the shift from automation to autonomy in banking and asks how financial services will be redefined in the age of AI, Open Finance & Digital Assets.
As AI systems become capable of acting autonomously, infrastructure grows increasingly programmable, and ecosystems emerge as the new engines of value creation, financial institutions face a defining question: What comes after digitalization? Banking 4.0 is where that question is explored – and where practical answers take shape through debate, collaboration, and real-world innovation.
Banking 4.0 brings together around 300 experts, innovators, and technology leaders from more than 20 countries, representing nearly 100 organizations across the financial ecosystem. Participants include traditional and digital banks, insurers, telecom operators, software developers, payment networks, card processors, infrastructure providers, consulting and law firms, regulators, and industry associations.
