ING launches travel eSIM across nine markets, including Romania
ING, one of Europe’s leading banks, has partnered with Gigs, the leader in embedded mobile services, to offer global travel data to its customers directly from the ING app. “The eSIM launches today in The Netherlands, with Poland, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Spain, Romania, Turkey, and Australia to follow. The initiative is part of ING’s new tiered subscription model, which combines everyday banking with lifestyle benefits.” – according to the press release.
“Customers tell us they want banking to be simple, flexible, and designed around their lifestyle,” said Sali Salieski, Global Head of Private Individuals Banking at ING. “With ING eSIM, we’re making it easier for customers to stay connected when they travel, extending the convenience they already experience through our banking app.”
This launch reflects a broader shift. Today’s customers want their bank to make life easier by delivering a host of financial and non-financial services in a few taps of their app. Instant global connectivity has become central to that proposition, eliminating one of the most persistent frustrations of international travel and putting customers in control of the essentials from the moment they land in a new country.
“At the centre of this shift is Gigs. Built to make it effortless for any bank, travel, or tech company to offer mobile services directly from its platform, Gigs powers connectivity for some of the most recognised brands in the world. The ING partnership represents an important chapter, as embedded mobile connectivity becomes a core product for major banks.” – the company said.
“Mobile connectivity has become as fundamental as a bank account,” said Hermann Frank, Co-Founder and CEO of Gigs. “But for years, staying connected abroad meant downloading yet another travel app or paying expensive roaming fees. By embedding connectivity directly into its app, ING lets users access global data from the same trusted place they manage their money, giving customers one less thing to worry about when they travel. This is what the next generation of banking looks like, and Gigs is proud to power it.”
Gigs, the operating system for mobile services, empowers tech companies to embed connectivity into their product. By bundling phone plans and travel data with their core services, Gigs’ customers can increase stickiness and unlock a new recurring revenue stream with digital mobile experiences that create meaningful value for consumers. Trusted by the world’s leading tech companies including Revolut, Klarna, Cash App and Motorola. Backed by Ribbit Capital, Google and Y Combinator, plus the CEOs of Uber, DoorDash and OpenAI, Gigs was founded in 2020 by Hermann Frank and Dennis Bauer.
