eCommerce network tokenisation revenue to surge past $7 billion globally by 2027, driven by widespread Click to Pay roll-out
A new study by global tech strategists Juniper Research has revealed that the revenue generated by eCommerce network tokenisation will surge past $7 billion in 2027; increasing 37.7% over the next year from $5.1 billion. The research indicated Click to Pay, a one-click card checkout standard, will drive growth by natively passing network tokens rather than primary account numbers.

Vendors Must Capitalise on Structural Opportunities
The research found that Click to Pay adoption is accelerating, driven by automatic roll-outs by issuers, such as how Revolut is automatically enrolling UK-issued cards into Click to Pay; widening availability and familiarity of the scheme-led checkout flow.
According to Thomas Wilson, Senior Analyst at Juniper Research, “As network tokenisation becomes dominant, payment service providers will increasingly default to network tokens in their stacks. For network tokenisation vendors, this means that they need to move from offering basic network tokenisation to more advanced services, such as stronger token lifecycle management that better links different channels and devices; unlocking tokenisation’s full potential for merchants.”
The research identified agentic commerce as the next major tokenisation opportunity, as network tokenisation can provide the credentials that AI tools need to autonomously make payments. Given its early stage as a market, network tokenisation vendors must prioritise participating in the right ecosystem partnerships and pilot schemes to establish their role within agentic commerce. As network tokenisation is highly competitive, and is becoming an increasingly saturated market, vendors must tap into emerging agentic commerce demand, or they will be vulnerable to potential market consolidation.
